Vilano Drift Single Speed Road Bike Review

Pros of Vilano Drift

I consider Vilano Drift a very “simple” and affordable road bike. You don’t have to deal with any complicated gears with this bike, which is a great thing, if you’re not a pro cyclist. Just hop on it and start flying! Wait, “flying”? Yes!! It picks speed up really fast and easy, which make the cycling experience wonderful. Assembly was easy – you just follow the straightforward instructions and off you go. Even if you have no prior experience with bike assembly whatsoever, you should have no trouble with it. What I absolutely love about this bike is it’s sharp appealing outlook, and it’s weight. It’s quite lightweight, and personally, that’s a big road bike requirement for me. Because of i’s weight being so light and good speed, you will actually feel like you’re flying! OK, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but yeah, overall, it’s a bike you’ll most certainly enjoy. I know because I did!

Cons of Vilano Drift

There aren’t many things I don’t like about this bike, but indeed, there are a few. First, the brakes aren’t of too good quality. I’d have loved it if the brakes were higher quality. Second, well, maybe it’s just me, but I found the seat uncomfortable. I swapped it out with saddles. But I guess that’s what you can expect from cheap road bikes that at least work really well. That’s pretty much about it. Rest is all fine. One more thing: The price. It’s retail price is bit high. However, the good thing is, you can get it for a 47% discount from Amazon, so that’s a pretty good deal.

Bottom Line

I think it’s an excellent, plus a cheap road bike. If you’re fine with the seat and brakes, I’m certain you’ll love it, because of the great pick up, good outlook  and it’s weight. Over all, it gives you a great riding experience, as I’ve already said before.

Vilano Tuono Flat Bar Road Bike Review

Pros of Vilano Tuono Flat Bar

A few of its pros are same as Vilano Drift’s, but worth mentioning. First, it’s also quite lightweight. The gears are easy and I find the gear ratio to be perfect. The frames are of great quality, which is a big pro. Remember I didn’t like the brakes of Vilano Drift? Well, I loved the brakes of Vilano Tuono. They’re excellent and highly responsive. The tires seem durableand also catch speed up fast enough.

Cons of Vilano Tuono

Okay, I have to admit, there are a few things I don’t like about it. The major disappointment was difficulty in tweaking.  So, let’s get to the details now. I found it hard to tweak the front derailleur. The front hub has no sealed bearings, and I had to change the saddle, because stock one is 2×4. Quality control is a little sub-par, I might add. Also, I think placement of shifters isn’t optimum – it takes up too much room.

Bottom Line

If you’re fine with tweaking the bike, this bike might be a steal for you at this price, and you’ll consider this a great cheap road bike. Main reason is, it offers great amount of features – more than Vilano Drift does, no doubt. The cons of Vilano Drift (like the poor brakes and uncomfortable seat) covered up the pros of Vilano Tuono. Good thing is you can just ask your local bike shop to do all the tweaking, if you consider it a pain in the butt, anyway. I find the bike to be more ‘responsive’ than Vilano Drift, and in my opinion, it’s one of the greatest cheap road bikes for commuting or exercising.

Factors to Note While Buying a Road Bike

Appearance of the Road Bike

First, look at the bike and ask yourself, “does this look appealing?” How’s the design of the bike? Additional useless add-on’s may add to confusion. For the beginners, I’d recommend just sticking to ‘simple’ designs and avoiding extra weird add-on’s that can cause problems for you. Remember – the simpler, the better.

Weight of the Bike

It’s important you find the weight comforting enough. When I tested Vilano Drift for reviewing on Hubpages, I found it was quite lightweight. And because of its excellent pick up and lightweight, it made me feel like I’m “flying”. Yep – the weight factor matters a lot if you want to “enjoy” your bike riding experience. Be sure you take proper note of weight when buying a road bike.

Is the Road Bike comfortable?

 There are many things further that count to personal comfort with the road bike. For one, you’ve got to make sure the size of the bike is suited for your personal comfort. Road bikes come in all sorts of sizes and shapes, to be honest. Take enough time to find the bike that suits you the best – that you feel most comfortable riding. It will be very well worth it.

This is also where most people go wrong. Just because you like the colour or the brand of the road bike doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be comfortable riding the bike, unless you actually feel the size, seat and other features are perfect for you.

Speaking of the seat, the seat also needs to be comfortable. It’s probably obvious enough, but very crucial. Sit on the seat and ride and ask yourself, “can I keep sitting on this seat and ride for more than half an hour with ease?” If not, get another one. You want a road bike that you’ll love. Don’t over-complicate it.

You’ve also got to be comfortable with gears and the brakes. First make sure you know yourself whether you want a bike with gears or not. If yes, find one with perfect gear ratio. As for the brakes, be sure it’s smooth enough and stops just like you want it to.
